On Saturday, August 10th, Magia took part in The Mountain Fox Climb for a charity called Finnbar’s Force. Finnbar's Force was set up in 2017 after the loss of Finnbar Cork to a brain tumour on August 5, 2016, just five months after he was diagnosed.
The charity dedicates itself to providing emotional and practical support to families, both emotionally and practically, both in their homes and at the hospital. Families with children under 18 diagnosed with brain tumours and childhood cancers in Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire receive support from the charity. They also created a family information toolkit to help them find the best online resources and local charities and services.
Finnbar's Force held their first big charity ball in April this year and have opened their first Family Support Centre in Eaton, Norwich, which is a big milestone for the charity and will allow them to increase the support they offer daily to families.
The team knows that dealing with a paediatric brain tumour can be an incredibly challenging and emotional experience, and their Family Support Centre will aim to ease some of the burdens by offering various forms of emotional and psychological support, networking, practical assistance, and information.
The charity is on a steep growth journey, so it's a critical time for them to increase awareness, fundraising, and support for a critical cause, and with your help, they can enhance their offering and help even more families when they need it the most!
The Finnbar’s Force Just Giving page closes on October 27th, 2024. https://justgiving.com/campaign/mountainfoxes
“It was a fantastic experience. Everybody was into it, and people were really good at taking sensible advice onboard, which resulted in people being well prepared. We had a safe climb and descent, and everybody made it without injury. We raised a significant amount of money, and I'm really looking forward to the next challenge!”
– Evert Fernandes, Magia Technical Director
“It was an amazing experience to hike up Scafell Pike. The best thing was that we got to do it as part of a supportive community that genuinely cheered each other on.
The funds raised will make a real difference to Finnbar's Force's work in supporting families affected by childhood cancer, and we are very proud to support this initiative. If you haven't already, please donate. https://justgiving.com/campaign/mountainfoxes”

“It was a little gruelling, and the summit was misty, windy, and cold. But it was worth it, for such a good cause and for all the nice people I spoke to on the way up and down.
It felt like a wonderful achievement to get everyone up and down safely, and to celebrate after. Collectively over £6,000 was raised for the charity! Looking forward to the next challenge”
– Jon Watson, Magia Delivery Director
“What a great day out! It was lovely to share the experience with an enthusiastic and patient group of people. This was my second time to the top of Scafell Pike, and once again, the views largely eluded us, so I may have to repeat it.”
– Ian Clough, Magia Consultant
“Such an amazing achievement. It was a great experience to tag along with some amazing people, and it was for a fantastic cause. It was lovely to meet you all and be part of the hike. Great work, everyone!”
– Richard Inness, Honorary Magian, IntaForensics Principal Digital Forensic Analyst
A special thank you to Sophie Cooke-Shaw, champion of Finnbar's Force, whose drive and enthusiasm are the reason so many people joined the hike, and to the Mountain Foxes, who were up before 6 a.m. to make this possible.
